23 Grinch Party Ideas for the Ultimate Grinchmas Party
When it comes to Christmas party themes, there’s a lot to choose from. And if you’re looking for Grinch party ideas, you’re in for a treat! From decorating with red and green decor to serving Grinch inspired food, here’s some easy ways to bring a little Whoville magic to your celebration.
Grinch Party Ideas
1. Send Out Grinch Party Invitations
One of my favorite grinch party ideas is to create an invite, because every good party always starts with a cute invitation.
Rather than just sending a text message, create a flyer for your party.
That way, you can give everyone a sneak peek of the party theme and build excitement.
And to make your invitations even cuter, you can add a Grinch inspired message to the invitation itself or use it as a caption when sending it out.
Here are a few messages that you can use as inspo:
- Let’s make your heart grow three sizes! Join us for a Grinchy good time!
- Don’t be a mean one! RSVP for some Grinchy holiday fun!
- Christmas in Whoville just isn’t complete without you! RSVP for a Grinchy good time!
- It’s a Grinchy Christmas party, and you’re on the guest list!
- Don’t be a mean one! Join us for a Grinchmas party!
2. Have a Grinch Dinner and Movie Night
If you want your party to be a little more casual or if you’re looking for a last minute way to throw this party together; you can use the grinch theme for a “dinner and a movie” night.
Make a few Grinch themed snacks for everyone to eat while watching the movie. Or set this up as a formal dinner, then watch the movie afterwards.
3. Host a Grinch Pajama Party
Another way that you can use the Grinch theme, is to host a Grinchmas pajama party.
Invite your friends to wear Christmas pajamas or Grinch PJs.
Order pizza, bake some cookies, and spend the evening watching “The Grinch” together.
4. Host a Grinchmas Costume Party
One last and final way that you can set up your Grinch party, is to turn it into a costume party!!!
Invite your guests to come dressed as the Grinch himself, Cindy Lou, Max, or any of the colorful Whos from Whoville.
5. Decorate With Green
I hate to say it… but… am I the only one who doesn’t really like, the Grinch decorations that they sell in stores?
For some reason, I find them a little wonky or tacky.
If you’re in the same boat, (yayyy that means I’m not alone) here’s a great alternative!
Instead of buying a bunch of Grinch decorations, decorate your space with a green color palette.
Or, if you want something a little more whimsical, decorate with pastel colors. Add some Whoville themed decor and sprinkle in some Grinch pieces throughout.
6. Decorate With a Grinch Christmas Tree
Grinch-ify your regular Christmas tree and decorate it with Grinch themed ornaments.
Or, you can snag a neon green grinch Christmas tree and decorate it with lots of Grinch decorations, ornaments, and ribbons.
Grinch Party Food Ideas
When it comes to the food for your Grinch Christmas party, you can serve whatever you’d like.
However, I do recommend adding a few green foods or dishes inspired by the movie, to tie in the theme.
From roast beef sliders to green fruit salad, here’s some Grinch party food ideas to add to your menu.
7. Roast Beef Sliders
Remember the famous roast beast from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”?
Recreate this dish with roast beef sliders made with deli roast beef, provolone cheese, and Hawaiian rolls.
8. Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
Another sandwich option, is making philly cheesesteak sliders.
They’re a great alternative if you don’t want to use deli roast beef, and they’re easy to make in a big batch for a party.
9. Serve Guacamole and Chips
For an easy appetizer that fits the green color theme, serve some chips and guac.
10. Garlic Knots
Another appetizer idea is garlic knots.
Make them from scratch, grab some from your local pizza shop, or buy them at the grocery store.
11. Spinach dip
Spinach dip and tortilla chips, are another easy and delicious appetizer idea.
12. Salad
Whether you’re making the salad from scratch or getting a premade bag from the store, salad is another tasty option for your menu.
13. Make a Green Fruit Salad
Make a fruit salad using different green fruits like grapes, kiwi, green apples and/or honeydew melon.
14. Make Mojitos
If you’re looking for Grinch party ideas for adults, serve mojitos as your themed cocktail.
15. Serve Who Hash Tater Tots
A few years ago, I visited Seuss Landing at Universal Studios, and tried their Who Hash; and I absolutely loveddd it!
You can recreate it for your party and all you need are tater tots, white cheese sauce, corned beef, and chopped scallions.
16. Set Up a Hot Chocolate Bar
If you’re hosting a Grinch pajama party or movie night, add to the cozy vibes with a “build your own” hot chocolate bar.
17. Have a Matcha Making Station
Matcha is all the rave right now, and it fits perfectly with the Grinch’s green color theme.
If you’re hosting a Grinch girls’ night or Friendsmas party, set up a matcha latte making station.
Grinch Party Games and Activities
18. Play Grinch Movie Trivia
Test your guests’ knowledge of The Grinch with a trivia game.
You can create a PowerPoint presentation with the trivia questions.
Or print out worksheets for everyone to answer. Once everyone is finished, go through the correct answers and have guests tally up their scores.
You could even divide guests into teams or turn it into a Grinch themed Jeopardy game.
19. Whoville Freeze Dance
Encourage everyone to come to the dance floor and play Whoville freeze dance.
Here’s how to play:
- Play different Christmas music and have everyone dance.
- Randomly pause the music throughout and shout, “Freeze! It’s the Grinch!”
- Anyone who moves after the music stops, is out.
- Keep playing until there’s only one person left.
20. “The Grinch Stole My Gift” Gift Exchange
This is basically a White Elephant gift exchange, but with a Grinch inspired name.
Have everyone bring a wrapped gift and place them together.
Then, let guests take turns choosing a gift to unwrap or stealing an already opened gift from someone else.
21. Secret Grinch Gift Exchange
Another gift exchange idea is Secret Grinch, which is essentially a “Secret Santa”.
22. Guess the Christmas Song
Put your guests’ Christmas music knowledge to the test, and play “guess the Christmas song”.
Divide guests into teams and play a few seconds of a Christmas song.
The first team to raise their hand, grab a designated object, or press a buzzer gets to guess the song.
If they guess correctly, they earn a point. If not, the next team gets a chance to steal the point.
Keep playing different Christmas songs until you’re ready to end the game.
23. Mystery Game: Who Took the Candy Canes?
Before the party, hide candy canes throughout your party space and secretly choose one guest to be the Grinch.
Throughout the party, the secret Grinch must collect the candy canes without getting caught.
Towards the end, have everyone guess who they think the Grinch is. Then, reveal the secret Grinch and see who guessed correctly.
