I’ve rounded up some easy, delicious, filling, and cheap dorm snacks that are perfect to keep stocked in your room.
So, if you don’t want to live off of ramen noodles every night, you’ll find plenty of healthier options on this list. Plus, many of these snack ideas don’t require a refrigerator or microwave, making them perfect for any dorm setup.
Best Dorm Snacks
1. Peanut Butter and Banana Toast

Starting off strong, one of the best dorm snacks is peanut butter and banana toast. It’s cheap, filling, doesn’t require refrigeration, and takes less than five minutes to make.
All you need is a few slices of bread, peanut butter (or your favorite nut butter, like almond butter), and a banana. Simply spread the peanut butter onto your toast, slice the banana, and layer it on top.
It’s like a more elevated version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You still get the creamy, savory flavor from the peanut butter, but the banana adds just the right amount of natural sweetness. Plus, it’s a balanced snack that provides protein from the peanut butter, carbohydrates from the bread, and fiber from the banana to help keep you full between classes.
Note: Before bringing peanut butter into your dorm room, make sure to check with your roommate(s) to see if anyone has a peanut allergy. If they do, you can easily swap it for a peanut free alternative like sunflower seed butter.
2. Peanut Butter Rice Cakes with Fresh Fruit

If you love peanut butter toast, another delicious option is to swap the bread for rice cakes. And you can pair this with some fresh fruits and nuts for added protein and fiber.
Overall, this snack is the perfect combination of crunchy, creamy, and sweet. It’s also filling enough to satisfy your snack cravings and keep you full until your next meal.
3. Fresh Fruits

Some other great dorm snacks are fresh fruits, especially since they contain lots of fiber, which can help satisfy your hunger cravings.
When you’re in the mood for a snack and just want to munch on something, fruits like apples are a great option because they give you that satisfying crunch.
If you don’t have a refrigerator in your dorm, some great fruits to keep on hand are apples, peaches, bananas, oranges, and kiwis because they don’t require refrigeration. However, if you have a fridge, you can also stock up on fruits like blueberries, strawberries, grapes, and some of your other favorite fruits.
4. Cereal and Milk

Whether you’re looking for something to eat in the morning, afternoon, or a snack to satisfy those late night hunger cravings; cereal is always one of my top snack choices because it’s so easy to put together.
If you have a fridge in your dorm room, this is a great option because you can store your milk and keep your favorite box of cereal in your room. Whenever you’re hungry, all you have to do is grab a bowl and make yourself some cereal.
5. Sandwiches

Another one of my favorite dorm room snacks is sandwiches. I used to make these all the time during my freshman year because they were honestly so easy to make and very satisfying. I would pair my sandwich with some Lays or Doritos chips, and to me, it felt like a complete meal.
For a simple sandwich, all you need are the foundational ingredients: sliced bread, cheese, deli meat, and mayo/mustard. If you want to add more toppings, you can include things like lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, or any other toppings you want.
6. Overnight Oats

If you like overnight oats or oatmeal in general, this is a great snack or breakfast idea that you can make in your dorm room. Oats are super budget friendly, healthy, and filling, making them a great option when you need something that will keep you satisfied.
For overnight oats, all you need are oats, some milk, and any other ingredients or toppings you want to add. There are so many different recipes online, so look up a few recipes, see what ingredients they require, and grab the ones you need to make your own.
7. Trail Mix

A quick and easy snack option is trail mix because you can either grab it directly from the store or make your own.
8. Protein Bars
Protein bars are another great dorm snack because they contain protein, which can help you stay satisfied when you’re hungry.
There are so many different brands and flavors available. So whether you’re in the mood for something soft and chewy or more crunchy, grab a protein bar that fits your taste.
9. Charcuterie Plate

I live for a good girl dinner, and one of my favorite girl dinner snacks is making a charcuterie plate. This is also a great dorm room snack because it’s super easy to put together, healthy, and works for different budgets. Plus you can customize your plate by adding whatever meats, cheeses, and veggies you want.
A great way to save money when creating your charcuterie plate is to buy a block of cheese and dice it yourself instead of buying pre cut cheese. You can also save money on your meats by using deli meat instead of more expensive cured meats. To make your plate more filling, add some fresh veggies like carrots and bell peppers for extra fiber. And of course, include some crackers to bring everything together.
10. Sardines

If you’ve been on social media lately, you may have noticed that sardines have been trending so much within the past few months.
You can eat sardines on their own, or you can create a whole snack plate by pairing them with vegetables and crackers.
Important: One thing to keep in mind is that sardines do have a strong smell. So it’s a good idea to let your roommate know beforehand if you plan on making them.
When you’re finished eating, avoid throwing the empty can directly into the garbage. Instead, place it inside a plastic bag, seal it tightly, and then throw it away to help contain the odor.

17. Hummus and Carrots
Store hummus in your refrigerator and enjoy it with carrots, crackers, or pita chips for a quick and easy snack.
18. Bread and Olive Oil

One of my favorite snacks that I loved, especially during my senior year of college, was bread with seasoned olive oil.
To make it, I would get an Italian bread loaf along with a small bottle of extra virgin olive oil. Then, I would pour some oil in a bowl and season it with Italian seasoning and salt. After that, I would warm some bread in the microwave and dip it in the seasoned olive oil, and enjoy my snack.
If you’re someone who loves when the bread comes out at a restaurant, you definitely have to try this snack idea.
