Things to do in the Fall With Friends

1. Have a Friendsgiving Party

One of the most iconic things to do in the fall with friends is to host a Friendsgiving party.

And if you’ve somehow never heard of Friendsgiving before, where have you been? All jokes aside, it’s basically a Thanksgiving inspired get together with your friends.

2. Start a Fall Book Club

If you and your friends want something that you can do together while also having a little bit of solo time, start a fall book club.

You could make it a monthly thing where everyone reads one book throughout the month and then get together at the end to talk about it.

Or, if your schedules are a little tight, choose one book for the entire fall season and slowly read it from September through November.

3. Have a Fall Movie Night

Invite your friends over and host a fall movie night.

This is one of my favorite things to do because it’s easy, cozy, and you really don’t have to plan much.

You can keep things simple with a movie and some popcorn. Or elevate the night a little more by putting together a full snack spread with pizza, popcorn, candy, drinks, and whatever else everyone likes.

Tell everyone to come over in pajamas or loungewear, dim the lights, light a candle, grab some blankets, and make it feel like a cozy movie screening.

4. Have a Soup Party

Another cozy girls night-in idea, is to host a soup potluck; where everyone brings a different soup to share.

For example, someone can bring tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches, someone else can make minestrone, chili, or butternut squash soup.

Add some bread, crackers, and drinks and you basically have an entire dinner.

And definitely have some to-go containers on hand, for those that want to take soup home at the end of the night.

5. Go Grocery Shopping for Fall Snacks

My friends and I have actually turned this into an annual tradition.

Every year around the second week of September, we go to Trader Joe’s and see what fall themed snacks and seasonal foods they have out.

It’s such a simple outing, but that’s honestly what makes it sooo fun.

If you’re looking for something easy to do with your friends, head to your favorite grocery store and browse the seasonal section together.

Pick out a few snacks, drinks, desserts, or random things that look interesting and bring everything back home for a little taste test.

You could even rate everything and decide which snacks are actually worth buying again.

6. Visit an Attraction

Sometimes you just need to get out of the house and go somewhere.

Visit a museum, pumpkin patch, theme park, festival, local market, or another attraction near you.

7. Go on a Scenic Drive

If you live somewhere that experiences visible fall weather, take advantage of it and go on a scenic drive with your friends.

Put together a playlist, grab some drinks or snacks for the car, and drive somewhere where you can see all of the fall foliage and changing leaves.

And if you live somewhere like me, where fall foliage is basically nonexistent; you can turn this into more of a mini road trip or trip instead.

8. Take Fall Pictures Together

Invite your friends to get dressed up and have a fall photoshoot.

You can even give everyone a loose theme like flannels, denim jackets, neutral colors, sweaters, or slightly dressier outfits.

Then head somewhere cute and take pictures of each other.

You could go to a pumpkin patch, park, coffee shop, downtown area, or just a pretty outdoor location near you.

9. Bake a Recipe Together

Choose a recipe, get everyone in the kitchen, and bake something together.

You could make cinnamon rolls from scratch, pumpkin bread, cookies, pie, muffins, or whatever fall recipe you’d like.

This is also a great idea, if you have a smaller group of friends because everyone can contribute without the kitchen feeling completely chaotic.

10. Have a Dinner Party

Since we’re already talking about food, another fun thing to do with friends in the fall is host a dinner party.

One option is to invite everyone over and cook the entire meal together. Each person can work on a different dish while you all hang out in the kitchen.

Or, you can prepare everything beforehand and simply invite everyone over to eat.

11. Carve Pumpkins

Grab some pumpkins and have a pumpkin carving night.

Put some newspaper or trash bags down because things will get messy. Bring out the carving tools. And see who can carve the best pumpkin.

Another alternative to this idea, is to paint pumpkins instead of carving them.

Grab some acrylic paint and paintbrushes and let everyone decorate their pumpkins.

12. Make S’mores Around a Campfire

Grab some graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows, and make s’mores around a campfire.

And if you don’t have access to an actual campfire, a backyard fire pit or grill works perfectly too.

13. Go on an Evening Walk

If you and your friends live close to each other, and you’re looking for something super simple to do, meet up and go on an evening walk.

Walk around your neighborhood, head to a local park, or find a cute walking trail nearby.

14. Start a Fitness Challenge

Speaking of walking, fall can sometimes be the season where staying active starts getting pushed further and further down the priority list.

So if you want a little extra motivation, start a fitness challenge with your friends.

You could make a group chat where everyone keeps each other accountable and shares what they did that day.

Maybe everyone has to hit 5,000 or 10,000 steps, complete a certain number of workouts each week, stretch every day, or simply do something active.

I personally find that doing something alongside other people, makes it so much easier to stay motivated.

15. Go on a Picnic

Picnics get talked about a lot during spring and summer, but early fall is another great time to go on one.

It’s usually not unbearably hot anymore, but it’s also not freezing yet.

Grab a blanket, some snacks, sandwiches, fruit, drinks, and a few games and head to a park.

And if you live somewhere that gets really cold or snowy during the winter; this is definitely the time to make the most of those last few weeks of warm weather.

16. Have a Game Day Watch Party

If you and your friends are football fans, host a game day watch party.

Invite everyone over, put the game on, and eat some classic watch party snacks; like wings, sliders, and chips and dip.

Then plop down on the couch and enjoy the game.

17. Go Thrifting

Whether you’re looking for some new fall clothes, home decor, or just random little treasures, go thrifting with your friends.
