Christmas Party Themes

1. White Christmas Party

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? Bring that vision to life with an all white Christmas party theme. Have your guests dress up in white outfits. Decorate your space with white decor. And if you really want to commit to the theme, you can even extend it to your menu. You can offer things like alfredo or some sort of white meal, a signature white party drink, or have some white desserts.

2. Winter Wonderland Christmas Party

If you’re looking for something with a bit more sparkle and color, turn your space into a Winter Wonderland. Think icy blues, silver accents, and lots of shimmer to make everything feel magical and frosty.

3. Ugly Sweater Party

What can I say? An ugly sweater party is a holiday classic and for good reason. It’s cozy, hilarious, and just the right amount of ridiculous-ness. Encourage your guests to go all out and dress up in their most “over the top” ugly sweater.

And to really make sure that your guests wear some really good ugly sweaters; highlight an incentive like a gift card for the person with the best outfit. You can even break down the “Best Sweater” contest into fun categories like “Most Festive,” “Most Creative,” or “So Ugly It’s Cute.”

4. Christmas is Brewing

Calling all coffee lovers… this one’s for you! A Christmas is Brewing party is a cute and unexpected coffee themed twist on a traditional holiday party. Decorate with warm neutral and brown colors. And of course, have coffee and some coffee themed items on your menu. And you can even encourage your friends to dress up in beige and brown neutral colors to match the theme.

5. Cookies and Cocoa

Cookies and cocoa just belong at Christmas time, so make them the star of the show with this party theme. Set up a cookie table with a variety of cookies and flavors. And pair it with a DIY hot cocoa bar. Where guests can mix up their perfect cup with toppings like whipped cream, cinnamon, peppermint sticks, marshmallows, and chocolate chips.

6. Christmas Pajama Party

Who says you have to dress up for a party? One of my favorite Christmas party themes is a pajama party because it’s so cozy and comforting. Especially in the middle of all of the busy holiday events and gatherings.

If you and your guests feel the same way, then a Christmas pajama party is the perfect choice. Plus, you can really tap into all of the cozy vibes and do some cozy activities. Like watching a movie, playing board games, and decorating sugar cookies.

7. Summer in the Winter Party

Turn up the heat with a Summer in the Winter party! If you live somewhere that experiences traditional winter weather: snow, cold air, and short days. And you’re missing those long, sunny summer days, this theme is perfect for you. Bring back the warm vibes and transform your holiday gathering into a mini tropical escape.

This theme also works perfectly if you live in a warmer place like Florida or California, where winter still feels like summer. Just lean into those sunny vibes! Decorate your space with bright colors and summer decor. And of course, serve a summer inspired menu with things like chips and salsa, cold drinks, burgers, and pasta salads.

8. Santa’s Workshop

With a Santa’s Workshop party theme, turn your holiday celebration into a fun, hands-on arts and crafts event. Where guests can create their own projects and take them home as gifts. You can set up activities like DIY Christmas wreaths, canvas painting, or even creating your own hair scrunchies.

9. Ralph Lauren Christmas

The Ralph Lauren Christmas aesthetic has been trending everywhere lately. And honestly, it’s such a cozy throwback to the warm, traditional red and green Christmas themes of the 90s and 2000s.

In terms of decoration for this party theme, it’s all about layering textures and creating that warm and inviting holiday atmosphere. Mix plaid patterns with velvet textures, brown furniture, and of course traditional red and green Christmas decor to create a cozy and moody vibe.

10. Nostalgic Christmas Party

There’s something so comforting about nostalgia, especially during the holidays. It’s that warm, comforting feeling that lets you reconnect with your inner child and relive all the excitement and joy of being a kid during the holidays. If you want to tap into those feel good vibes, a nostalgic Christmas party theme is perfect.

You can pick any decade. The 70s, 80s, 90s, or even the 2000s, and decorate with holiday decor and iconic elements from that era. To really bring the theme to life, ask your guests to dress up in outfits inspired by the decade you choose.

As a 2000s baby, I’d totally lean into this theme with some of my favorite childhood snacks like: pizza rolls, chicken tenders, Capri Suns, and a candy table filled with all the popular treats from the early 2000s. And of course, I’d play throwback Christmas TV episodes from Disney Channel and PBS Kids, to really capture that nostalgic childhood holiday magic.

Christmas Party Themes for Adults

11. Christmas Game Night Party

If you and your guests love a little friendly competition, a Christmas game night party is the perfect theme. Make it clear that everyone’s coming ready to play so that they can put their game hats on.

You can play classic board games and card games. But to really keep the excitement up, try adding a few “Minute to Win It” challenges or interactive group games that will get everyone moving. Think Christmas themed charades, a cotton ball scoop contest, or even a round of holiday trivia.

12. Christmas Luau Party

Say aloha to the holidays with a Christmas luau party! Bring those warm, tropical vacation vibes to your celebration by decorating with leis, palm leaves, and colorful Hawaiian inspired decor. And serve up tropical dishes and drinks to match the theme.

13. Potluck Party

For a potluck themed Christmas party, the food truly becomes the heart of the celebration. You can go with a traditional potluck or incorporate a theme to it. For example, you can ask everyone to bring a dish that starts with the first letter of their name. (like Sarah’s salad or Michael’s mashed potatoes). Or even plan a color themed potluck. Where each guest chooses a color and brings a dish that matches their outfit.

14. Sip & Paint (Hot Cocoa Edition)

Host a sip and paint night with a festive drink like hot chocolate, holiday themed mocktails, or even regular wine. This theme is perfect if you’re looking for a laid back stationary party (other than watching a movie) that’s still hands-on, creative, and fun.

For the painting portion, you can grab pre-sketched Christmas themed canvases or start from scratch and follow a painting tutorial together. At the end, everyone can show off their finished masterpiece (and maybe vote on who has the best painting).

Set the mood with a soft Christmas playlist in the background. And throw in a few sing along songs so people can sing out their favorites while they paint.

15. Glow in the Dark Party

Take inspiration from Rudolph’s shiny red nose and plan a glow in the dark Christmas party. Use black lights, glow sticks, and neon decorations to make your space glow. You can even use glow-in-the-dark paint on ornaments, or table settings to make everything pop once the lights go off.

Plus this theme is perfect if you’re hosting your party at an event venue. Where you can really go all out with the decorations and make the space feel extra fancy and festive.

Looking to switch things up from the traditional red and green, a pink Christmas party theme is the perfect cute and girly twist. This theme is ideal for a cozy girls’ night in and makes such a fun idea for a “Friendsmas” celebration.

18. Christmas Brunch Party

If you and your guests prefer a morning or early afternoon celebration, a brunch party is a fun and delicious alternative to a traditional evening get together. Serve up classic brunch favorites like pancakes, eggs, and bacon. And add a festive twist with holiday inspired breakfast dishes also, to bring that cozy Christmas flavor to your celebration.

19. Home Alone Movie Themed Party

“Home Alone” is 99.9% always on the list of best holiday movies. If you want to recreate this iconic movie into a party theme, it’s easier than you think. Decorate your space with cozy 90s style Christmas decor and fun references to the movie. Like toy cars scattered around as “booby traps” or DIY paint cans hanging from strings on the ceiling.

When it comes to food, serve up Kevin’s favorite junk foods. Such as cheese pizza, mac and cheese, ice cream sundaes, and of course, milk and cookies. To top it all off, end the night by watching “Home Alone” with your guests.

20. Elf Movie Party

Another funny holiday movie to theme your party around is Elf! Bring the magic (and the sugar rush) of Buddy the Elf to life with movie posters, quotes, and scenes from the film displayed around your space.

When it comes to food, you probably don’t want to recreate Buddy’s wild spaghetti breakfast topped with syrup and candy (unless you’re feeling brave. lol). Instead, keep it fun but edible by serving a classic spaghetti dish like spaghetti and meatballs or a simple bolognese.

Since Buddy loves all things sweet, set up a candy bar filled with both regular and holiday treats. Such as candy canes, peppermint chocolates, M&Ms, and marshmallows. You can even include PopTarts and coffee on your menu to tie in more of the iconic foods from the movie.
