Brown Sugar Apple Oatmeal and my Mission to Romanticize Fall

With the fall season here, I’m on a mission to romanticize it as much as possible and really lean into all of the “fall vibes”.

One way that I started doing this, is creating a list of things that I wanted to do and intentionally trying them out throughout the season. Having a fall bucket list has given me something to look forward to and gives me a list of ideas for when boredom strikes.

Romanticizing fall breakfast

Since I live in South Florida, fall doesn’t exactly look like leaves changing colors, cool mornings, and orange-gy fall foliage. Instead, we’re still riding out the 90 degree weather and plenty of rain.

So in order to capture some of those “stereotypical” fall elements; especially the cozy, warm, and homey parts of the season; I’m trying to make my Florida fall feel as “fall” as possible.

And an easy way that I did this today, was in spicing up my breakfast.

Instead of making my usual bowl of oatmeal, I made a brown sugar cinnamon apple oatmeal.

Now every season has certain fruits that just feel like they belong. In the summer, you have all of the berries, and during the fall, apples are everywhere. I’ve especially noticed this at my grocery store because so many different varieties of apples have been on sale lately.

Chopping apples

So I grabbed a few, and in addition to eating them as a snack, I decided to incorporate one into my breakfast.

After making my regular pot of oatmeal, I grabbed a nonstick skillet and melted about a tablespoon of butter. Then I added some cinnamon and tossed in my chopped apples, letting everything cook for about a minute or two. (I didn’t want the apples to get too soft)

Then I added about two tablespoons of brown sugar and a splash of vanilla extract to the pan.

Making oatmeal

I honestly didn’t use any exact measurements while making my breakfast. I mostly tasted as I went.

If I thought it needed a little more sweetness, I added some more sugar. If the oatmeal was getting too thick, I added a splash of milk. And if it needed a little more oomph, I added some extra cinnamon and vanilla extract.

Overall, this breakfast was soooo good and incredibly easy to make with ingredients I already had in my pantry.

And it perfectly shows that there’s so many small ways that you can lean into the fall season, without doing anything expensive or inconvenient.

Sometimes romanticizing the season can be as simple as changing up your usual breakfast, lighting a candle, making a cozy drink, or intentionally doing something that feels a little more fall inspired.

So if you’re also looking for little ways to make the most of the season, let this be your sign to romanticize your fall.
