How to Glow Up Right Now
Whenever I hop on YouTube, my feed is usually filled with self care videos and “how to glow up” tips. And don’t get me wrong, I love that kind of content. But one thing I’ve noticed is that most of the advice, focuses on the physical side of things. Like skincare routines, new outfits, and getting your hair done.
I really want to expand on this topic and add my own perspective to it. Because when I think of a “glow up” the thought that comes to mind, is that it’s something that starts from within and is then seen on the outside. So without further ado, here are some of my personal tips on how to glow up.

How to Glow Up
1. Understand That you are God’s Creation
I can’t talk about glowing up and feeling confident, without first acknowledging the importance of knowing that you are God’s creation. With that understanding, you can begin to see that you are beautiful, and wonderfully made by God. From your skin color, to the texture of your hair, your height, the shape of your nose, your eyes and even your ears, God took his time in creating YOU.
The same God who created the beautiful flowers, the roaring ocean, and the great mountain ranges, is the same God who took His time to create you and every part of your being. More than that, God designed you so intricately, that He even knows the number of hairs on your head.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Psalms 139:14 NIV
“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Luke 12:7 NIV
2. Consume a Healthy Diet
When it comes to glowing up, one of the biggest things I try to implement in my own life is consuming a healthy diet. And this goes far beyond just eating fruits and veggies. It also includes what we’re feeding our minds. What we’re feeding our eyes in what we’re watching. And what we’re feeding our ears through what we listen to.
Whether it’s the people you surround yourself with or the content you consume online, it’s important to be mindful of what you’re taking in. Make sure it’s building you up and nourishing you instead of causing comparison, anxiety, self doubt, or making you feel less than.
A great way to assess what you’re feeding yourself is to take a closer look at your daily habits. Pay attention to the music you listen to, the movies and shows you watch, and the people you spend time with.
Also, take a moment to reflect on your own thoughts. Are you self sabotaging by telling yourself that you’re ugly, dumb, or not capable? If so, take the time to pray over those thoughts and ask God to fill your mind with life giving thoughts that are positive and nourishing. When negative thoughts come up, be intentional about taking them captive and speaking life over your mind and over yourself.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Philippians 4:8 NLT
3. Make Time to Dilly Dally
Another one of my favorite glow up tips is to leave space in your day to day life to just *dilly dally*. That could look like sitting outside and soaking up the sun, reading a book, going for a walk, or having an impromptu meetup with friends. It’s about having fun with life and intentionally making room for enjoyment.
A lot of times, I have to remind myself that enjoyment is something I have to choose. In the midst of the busyness, the routines, and the endless to-do lists; it’s so important to slow down and do things that bring out your inner child. Be carefree, be a little silly, and just relax with yourself.
This can also look like going on solo dates and spending quality time alone. When you do that, you’re glowing up mentally because you’re discovering what you truly enjoy. You learn to enjoy your own company, and that kind of peace and self connection really shows.

4. Do Some Self Care Activities
Going back to the introduction of this article, I can’t talk about glow up tips without mentioning self care. From trying a new hairstyle to doing a full hygiene and personal care routine, and even coming up with new outfit ideas, take care of your body so you can look and feel your best.
If you’re trying to revamp your wardrobe and are looking for outfit ideas, remember to dress to impress yourself first and foremost. Wear clothes that make you feel good and align with your personal style. Just because everyone around you is following a certain trend doesn’t mean you have to in order to look good or fit in. Dress for your body type and silhouette, because when you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, it naturally shows on the outside.
5. Exercise Your Body
The last tip for glowing up is to get your body moving. Exercise is one of the best ways to boost dopamine and serotonin, which help us feel good and regulate our mood.
According to the American Psychological Association, exercise doesn’t just strengthen our muscles and bones. It can also support brain health, reduce stress, improve mental health and mood, and can even enhance memory and cognition.
If you’re thinking, “I don’t like going to the gym” or “I usually feel tired after exercising,” that’s totally okay. The key is to find ways to move your body that you actually enjoy. This could be going on a walk, dancing to a YouTube video, playing tennis or Pickleball with friends, or swimming. When exercise feels fun, it’s easier to stick with it and feel the “glow up” benefits.
