Friendsmas Ideas

What is Friendsmas

Friendsmas is basically a Christmas party but with your friends. Think of it as the Christmas version of Friendsgiving. A fun, cozy, and totally low-pressure way to celebrate the holidays with your closest friends.

Friendsmas Ideas

1. Friendsmas Pajama Party

When it comes to Friendsmas ideas, nothing beats a pajama party. It’s chill, cozy, and honestly the perfect excuse to wear pajamas. Everyone can show up in their favorite pajamas, fuzzy socks, and maybe even go all out with matching sets for the group.

To really set the cozy vibe, carry the theme into your food and activities. Create a DIY hot chocolate bar with whipped cream, marshmallows, candy canes, and maybe even some crushed peppermint candy, if you’re feeling fancy. Keep the food easy and snackable. Think charcuterie boards, sandwich sliders, and small desserts instead of a full sit down dinner.

And for entertainment? Lean into the cozy vibes. You could watch a Christmas movie, binge holiday episodes of your favorite shows, or go head-to-head in a gingerbread house decorating competition.

2. Friendsmas Bow Theme Party

Another one of my favorite Friendsmas ideas, (especially for an all girls get together) is a bow themed party. Bows have been trending everywhere lately. From home decor to hair accessories, and they’re such a cute way to add a feminine touch to your celebration.

Since bows are already such a Christmas staple, this theme ties in perfectly with the holiday season. You can decorate your dinner table with small bow accents. Tie bows around your napkins or glasses. Add them to your balloon garland. And even order a bow themed cake to match.

And for an extra touch, you can even invite your friends to wear something with a bow. Like a hair ribbon, bow earrings, or even a cute outfit with bow details.

3. Ugly Sweater Party

An ugly sweater party is such a holiday classic. And a great mix of festive and hilarious vibes. And honestly, this theme never gets old. Encourage everyone to show up in their ugly Christmas sweaters. They can buy one or go full DIY mode (personally, I’m all for the DIY. The tackier, the better!).

To really take the theme up a notch, “ugly-fy” your party space too! Go all out with colorful garlands, tinsel, and Christmas lights so that your space looks as fun and chaotic as possible.

4. Summer in the Winter Party

Bring the summer vibes straight into the holiday season with a “summer in the winter party”. Think flip flops, flowy dresses, shorts, sunglasses, beach hats; and basically anything that screams summer vacation mode.

This is such a hot twist (pun intended, lol) on a traditional Christmas party. Especially if you live somewhere warm, where winter doesn’t really feel like winter anyways. It’s playful, unexpected, and makes for the cutest photos.

To summer-fy your menu, serve up tropical inspired food and drinks. Like piña coladas, mocktails with mini umbrellas, or even BBQ style appetizers. And don’t forget the decorations! One of the best ways to tie the theme together is by decorating with summer themed decor like seashells, flamingos, or flowers.

5. Friendsmas Getaway

Get away this holiday season with a Friendsmas holiday trip! Whether it’s a snowy cabin; a beach escape; or a nearby city adventure; spending the holidays together in a new place can make the celebration feel two times special.

6. Decades Friendsmas Party

From the 70s to the 2000s, take your Friendsmas celebration back in time with a decades themed party. You can either pick one decade. Or mix it up and let your friends dress up in their fave era.

7. Costume Party

If you and your friends love any excuse to dress up, a Friendsmas costume party is the move. From Santa Claus to elves, or even a full-on Christmas tree, this theme is all about getting creative (and maybe a little silly).

You can set a specific theme like “North Pole characters” or “Christmas movie icons”, or just let everyone show up in their most festive look.

8. Winter Wonderland

(Cue the music…) “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!” If you’ve been dreaming of a white Christmas, a Winter Wonderland Friendsmas is the ultimate vibe. Decorate your space in white, silver, and soft blue shades. Add fairy lights, sparkly snowflake garlands, and a few fluffy faux snow accents to really set the scene.

And you can even extend the “winter” theme to your menu. Such as powdered donuts, white chocolate covered pretzels, loaded potatoe soup, white nacho dip, and even some light pasta dishes.

9. Friendsmas Tropical Luau party

Say aloha to the holiday season with a Friendsmas tropical luau party. If you’re craving sunshine in the middle of winter, this theme is the perfect way to bring some summer vibes to your holiday celebration.

Greet your guests with colorful lei necklaces and tropical drinks as soon as they walk in. Decorate with bright flowers, palm leaves, and string lights to turn your space into a mini Hawaiian getaway.

For music, make a playlist that blends classic Christmas songs with beachy Hawaiian inspired tunes. And for the food, serve Hawaiian inspired bites like chicken skewers, BBQ sliders, coconut shrimp, and fruity drinks.

10. Cookies and Cocoa Party

Holiday cookies and hot cocoa. Do I even need to say more? Create a station with a variety of cookies and a DIY hot cocoa bar, that your friends will love.

Here are a few fun things that you can include in your cocoa bar:

  • Milk (regular, lactose free, almond, or oat)
  • Stirrers
  • Hot cocoa packets
  • A recipe card with a signature hot cocoa recipe (so guests can make it too!)
  • Whipped cream
  • Crushed peppermint candy
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Cinnamon and/or nutmeg powder

11. Glow in the Dark Party

Light up the night with a Rudolph inspired “glow in the dark” Friendsmas Party. Hand out glow sticks. And decorate with neon balloons, string lights, and glow-in-the-dark decorations to make the whole space pop.

12. Friendsmas Brunch Party

Pancakes, cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon… if your mouth is already watering just thinking about it, a Friendsmas brunch party might be your vibe. It’s a fun twist on the usual Christmas dinner get together. And perfect if you’d rather celebrate in the morning or early afternoon instead of at night.

13. Holiday Movie Inspired Party

If you and your friends are obsessed with a particular holiday movie, consider hosting a Friendsmas party inspired by it. From “The Grinch” to “Elf” or “Home Alone”, there are so many great movies to choose from.

For example, a Grinch themed party is all about green (with pops of red). Make your menu the star of the show with Grinch inspired treats like green punch, Grinch kebabs, and Who Hash. Decorate your space with lots of green accents to capture that classic Grinchy vibe. And most importantly, to tie it all together, watch the movie during your party. My personal favorite is Jim Carrey’s 2000 version of The Grinch. It’s super funny and was way ahead of its time with the costume designs and jokes.

14. Friendsmas Tea Party

When you hear “tea party,” you probably think spring or summer vibes. But a tea party can totally work for the holidays too! Just grab some tea cups, prepare tea sandwiches and a variety of dainty desserts, add some red flowers to your table, and BAM!… you’ve got yourself a Christmas themed tea party.

15. Favorite Things Party

Have everyone bring their favorite Christmas things and turn it into a “Favorite things party”. It can be anything from snacks, candles, socks, nail polish, games. And everyone gets to share why it’s their favorite.

Have your friends bring extra samples to pass around and swap with each other. By the end of the party, everyone will have a little stash of their friends’ favorite things to take home!
